For a Samsung washer that will not spin, read the complete code before redistributing the load. Ub, U6, Ur and UE relate to imbalance; 5C points to draining, and door codes point to the latch. Those clues lead to different safe checks.
Check the load, door and displayed code
Look at the laundry before starting another spin. Samsung says an unbalanced load can stop a cycle; reposition the clothes so they are not gathered on one side. A load that is too large or too small can also cause imbalance. Do not run one heavy item by itself when the washer’s instructions call for a balanced load.
If the washer completes the cycle but the clothes remain wet, check the selected spin speed. Samsung Levant lists spin-speed adjustment among its checks. Use the setting available on your model and the cycle guidance for the load; a spin-speed choice is different from a motor failure.
Check that the door closes and latches without clothing caught at the opening. Samsung’s door-code groups include dS, d5, FL, LO, L0, dE, dE1, dE2, dC, dC1, dL, 1dC, 1dC4 and 1dC1. The exact indication varies by model. On FlexWash, Samsung Latin America says 1dC4 can indicate a missing rubber button beside the upper latch. Do not substitute another part or bypass the lock.
If the display shows SUd, 5UD, Sd, 5d or SUdS, Samsung says excess foam can pause the machine while it clears suds. It should resume; that indication alone does not call for service. Use the recommended detergent type and avoid adding more while foam remains.
Causes, from load setup to service
1. The load is unbalanced

Samsung groups Ub, U6, Ur and UE with imbalance. The current load may be bunched on one side, too large or too small. Open the door when the washer unlocks, redistribute the laundry and restart as the model directs.
Ur is distinct: Samsung says the washer adds water and tries to rebalance the load, which can extend the cycle. The other listed unbalance codes stop it. If the same load repeatedly triggers the code, check the washer’s level and the load size before assuming a part failed.
2. A drain error prevents the spin
The washer cannot drain
A 5C-family drain code appears or water remains in the tub before spin.

Samsung lists nd, 5E, SE, 5C, SC and 1 5C as drain-error codes. A washer may not proceed to a full spin while water remains in the tub. Check the accessible drain hose for a visible bend and consult the washer not-draining hub for the common external checks.
Samsung Latin America’s advice includes checking the washer level, hose and front-load pump filter. Only clean that filter if the model manual identifies it as owner-accessible. Do not remove a panel or open the pump area.
3. The door is not detected as closed and locked

A Samsung door code means the washer has not detected a closed and locked door. Check for clothing or an object around the latch and close the door normally. Child Lock can also affect the display; on some models with water in the tub, a door indication may appear while the lock is active.
For FlexWash, Samsung Latin America identifies a missing rubber button beside the upper latch as one cause of 1dC4. Keep that detail tied to FlexWash; do not apply it to another washer. If the door still does not lock, arrange service rather than bypassing the latch.
4. Excess suds are delaying the cycle

SUd, 5UD, Sd, 5d or SUdS indicates too much foam. Samsung says the washer pauses and continues as it clears the suds; service is not required for this code alone.
Use the detergent type and amount shown in the model manual. Do not restart repeatedly while the machine is clearing foam. If the indication returns when no suds are present, note the full code and contact Samsung support.
5. The washer is not level

A rocking washer can disturb the load and trigger imbalance again. Samsung Levant lists installation and leveling among its spin checks. Press the washer’s corners gently to see whether it rocks; do not reach underneath while it is running.
Use the leveling instructions for your model. If the washer is stacked or too heavy to adjust safely, ask an installer. The cited guidance does not make an internal repair necessary just because the machine stops to rebalance.
6. The washer needs calibration after installation or moving
The washer needs calibration after installation or moving

Samsung Singapore recommends calibration before the first wash after installing or moving the washer. The procedure measures the washer’s weight detection and takes about one to three minutes. It applies to an empty drum.
For a front-load model, Samsung Singapore says to power on, hold Temp and Delay End (+) for three seconds until Cb appears, then press Start/Pause. Its top-load sequence uses Temp and Delay End for three seconds, then Start/Pause; that process takes about one minute. Button combinations vary by model and region, so follow the manual for your unit.
7. A motor or internal fault needs service

Samsung Levant describes an empty short-cycle check: the drum should start and stop several times. If it does not move, a technician should inspect it. Samsung lists motor error groups including 3E, 3C and E3; the meaning of 3E can vary by model.
$300–$500Source: Washing Machine Repair Cost (Fixr) · Checked October 12, 2026 This Fixr range is for planning, not proof of a motor failure. Do not open the washer or replace a motor yourself. A technician should diagnose the motor, belt and controls.
Read the code family before resetting
Samsung groups 5C-family codes with drainage and door codes with the latch. The overfill group includes OE, 0E, OC and 0C. Motor indications include 3E, 3C and E3, but Samsung notes that some meanings vary by model. Write down the exact display, including spaces and letters, before switching off the washer.
An empty-drum spin check can separate a load problem from a symptom that remains with no laundry in the washer. Samsung Levant says the drum should start and stop several times during its short empty cycle. If it does not move, call a technician; do not remove the rear panel to look for a belt or motor. If the empty check works, return to the load size, distribution and spin-speed setting.
For a code not listed for your model, Samsung US says to turn the washer off for two to three minutes, turn it on and restart the cycle. If the code returns, arrange service. A reset can clear a temporary display but does not repair a door lock, drain restriction or motor fault.
Use regional instructions carefully
The calibration instructions above come from Samsung Singapore. They are not universal button combinations. The Levant support page’s empty spin check and leveling advice are also regional guidance. If your model manual gives a different procedure, follow the instructions for that washer.
The washer not-spinning hub covers shared checks, and the Whirlpool washer guide shows why another brand’s codes and measurements should not be copied to Samsung. Use Samsung’s model-specific error-code page for any code not listed here.
The US and Latin America code lists overlap but use different groupings. Keep regional labels with the washer’s market and model. Samsung Levant’s check that the door seal and inlet hose are in place is also a regional instruction; it is not a reason to remove the door boot or disconnect a hose. If a code’s meaning differs between the two Samsung pages, use the one that matches your region and model rather than combining both interpretations.
For an unbalance code, try repositioning the clothing before a reset. For a 5C-family code, check drainage first. For a door code, check the latch area. If the washer shows 3E, 3C or E3, or the drum will not move while empty, stop at the service boundary. The symptom and the first safe check should guide the next call, not a guess at an internal part.

When to call
Call if a door or motor code returns, the washer cannot drain, the empty spin check does not move the drum, or the required step is not in your owner’s manual. Give Samsung the full code, model, load type and whether the washer was recently installed or moved. Do not bypass the latch or open the motor area.
Frequently asked questions
What does Ur mean on a Samsung washer?
Samsung says Ur means the washer is adding water to rebalance the load. This can lengthen the cycle; redistribute the laundry if the washer stops with an unbalance code.
What does 5C mean on a Samsung washer?
Samsung groups 5C with drain problems. Check the safe external drain route and consult the washer drain guide before assuming a spin motor failure.
Should I calibrate a Samsung washer after moving it?
Samsung Singapore recommends calibration before the first wash after installation or moving. The button sequence differs between top-load and front-load models.
Can I replace a Samsung washer motor myself?
No. A motor diagnosis and replacement require internal access. If the drum does not move during the model-specific check, call Samsung or a qualified technician.
