Samsung Washer Error Codes: Full List and Fixes
Last updated
Samsung’s US support page groups its washer codes by condition, not by model, and gives one set of owner steps per group. This guide follows that page and Samsung’s reset page. Find the code on your display, read its group and do only the steps Samsung lists for it. Several groups, such as suds, hot and cold hoses and a stuck button, have simple owner fixes; others, such as motor, sensor and communication errors, have only a power cycle and then a service request. If the real problem is water in the tub or a basket that will not spin, see the washer not-draining guide or the washer not-spinning guide, and the Samsung washer reset guide covers the power-cycle steps in more detail.
Water, fill and drain codes
| Code group | Samsung’s meaning | Samsung’s listed owner actions |
|---|---|---|
| 1E, LE, 1C, LC, LC1, 1 1C, 1 LC | Water level or leakage error | Check for and fix leaks; check supply and drain hoses for kinks; run empty cycles with no additives. If suds appear, you used too much or non-HE detergent, so keep running empty cycles until they stop. If the code persists without suds, request service |
| 4C, 1 4C, nF, 4E | Not filling | Connect hot to hot and cold to cold without kinks; open the water valves fully; insert the drain hose 6 to 8 inches into the drain pipe without a kink; unplug or flip the breaker for one minute; check and clean the supply filters; request service if it persists |
| 4C2, 4E2, CE, 14C2, nF1 | Hot/cold error | The hoses are swapped. Connect cold to the cold inlet and hot to the hot inlet, typically blue to blue and red to red. No service is needed |
| nd, 5E, SE, 5C, SC, 1 5C | No drain | Water is not draining at the correct speed or at all; follow Samsung’s drain troubleshooting guide |
| OE, 0E, OC, 0C, 1 OC, 1 0C | Overflow | Too much water in the washer; follow the drain troubleshooting guide |
Door, button, balance and detergent codes
| Code group | Samsung’s meaning | Samsung’s listed owner actions |
|---|---|---|
| dS, d5, FL, LO, L0, dE, dE1, dE2, dC1, dL, 1 dC, 1dC4, 1dC1 | Door error | Make sure the latch is secure, nothing is caught in the door and the door is fully closed; request service if it cannot be fixed or the door or latch is damaged. On FlexWash models, 1dC4 means the rubber button beside the upper latch is missing and replacing it fixes the error |
| ddC, dC3 | Add Door error | Same steps as the door error for the Add Door |
| E2, bE2, 6E2 | Jammed button | Power off, touch each button individually and work it back and forth to its edges before releasing; request service if a button is damaged or the code returns |
| Ub, U6, Ur, UE, 1 Ub, 1U6 | Unbalanced load | Ur means the washer is retrying by adding water and rebalancing, which lengthens the cycle; other codes stop it. Untangle and redistribute the laundry, close the door and press Start |
| SDC, 5DC | Detergent drawer error | The drawer is not fully closed; push until it clicks |
| SUd, 5UD, Sd, 5d, SUdS | Excessive suds | The washer pauses briefly and continues automatically; the code may flash again at the end. Use less detergent |
Voltage and power codes
Samsung groups 9C1, 9C2, PF, 2E, 9E1, 9E2, UC, 19C1 and 19C2 as a voltage error, meaning a power irregularity. PF means a power failure from an outage, unplugging or a tripped breaker. Samsung’s steps are to confirm the washer has its own circuit with no extension cord and to request service if the code persists. It adds that models sold outside their country of origin may show this error. Do not measure the outlet or open an electrical panel; a suspected power fault belongs with an electrician or appliance technician.
Other codes and a basic reset
For everything else Samsung says to power the washer off for two to three minutes, power it on and restart the cycle, and to request service if the error continues. The groups it lists without specific owner steps include motor errors (3E, 3C, E3, 1 3C), communication errors (AE, AC and related codes), MEMS sensor errors (8E, BE, 8C, BC and related codes), temperature sensor errors (tE, tE1, tC), heater errors (HC, HE, HE1, Hr), clutch position errors (PC, PE), system errors (IE, SF and related codes), the system relay error (Sr), the motor speed sensor error (bE, 6E) and the SilverCare error (7E). Samsung also lists 9C6 as a high-temperature circuit error, 9C7 and 9C8 as hardware and software overcurrent errors and 18:8J as a model option error. For 3E, Samsung notes it may be a voltage error on some models, and for 8E/BE it may be a vibration sensor error, so check the manual.
Samsung’s reset page is blunt about what a power cycle does: it says there really is not a way to reset the washer other than unplugging it or switching off its breaker for one to five minutes. A reset clears the error codes in memory but does not fix the underlying problem, so the code may return. If a code returns after a reset, Samsung says not to clear it again, because clearing wipes the error history that a technician uses to diagnose the washer, and to request service instead.
Status codes that are not errors
| Display | Samsung’s meaning |
|---|---|
| dn | Firmware download in progress, about 15 minutes; the controls do not respond. Keep the power on. Request service if it lasts over 30 minutes with power on and no Wi-Fi issues |
| Cb, C6 | Calibration mode used to recalibrate weight detection, usually at installation; it runs one to three minutes and ends automatically, and should be run with the drum empty. Samsung’s calibration page adds that it helps the washer set the water level and balance the drum, that front-loaders rotate the drum for about three minutes and top-loaders the pulsator for about one, and that button combinations vary by model |
| CL | Child Lock; on newer models it appears after Child Lock drained the tub. Clear it by powering off and on or by turning Child Lock off |
| Refill detergent or softener | The automatic dispenser is empty; refill it and the message clears during the next cycle |
Samsung adds one door-related detail: a door error can appear with no cycle running if Child Lock is on and there is water in the tub. If the door is not closed or Child Lock is not turned off within 30 seconds, the washer drains the tub.
Blinking-light indicators
Samsung says blinking lights count as an error only if the washer also is not running normally, such as stopping mid-cycle. Its pairs are: Extra Large, Extra High, Large or High for a not-filling error; Hot with Small or Low for a hot/cold error; Small or Low for no drain; Tap Cold, Cool, Medium or Mid for overflow; Cold or Eco Warm for a jammed button; Hot with Extra Large, Extra High, Large or High for a door error; Hot with Warm for an unbalanced load; Hot with Cold or Eco Warm for a motor error; Warm for a communication error; Hot with Tap Cold or Cool for a MEMS sensor error; and Hot with Medium or Mid for a heater error. The Self Clean light is a reminder to run a Self Clean cycle, not an error. For any other combination with an actual problem, power off for two to three minutes, restart and request service if the pattern returns.
Cautions Samsung lists
Do not use Flood Safe hoses. Do not remove the screw holding the drain hose holder to the back of the washer; if it is removed, reinstall it with any fitting screw, and if the holder is missing, service is required. Do not open the door while the lock icon is lit. Use low-suds HE detergent in the correct amount to avoid leaks and suds errors.
What to tell Samsung
Have the model number and the exact code ready. Say what you already tried from the group above and whether the code returned after a power cycle. Do not clear a repeating code again before the call.
Frequently asked questions
What does 4C mean on a Samsung washer?
Samsung groups 4C, 1 4C, nF and 4E as a not-filling error. Samsung lists connecting hot to hot and cold to cold, opening the valves fully, checking for kinks and cleaning the supply filters.
What do 1E and LC mean on a Samsung washer?
Samsung groups them as a water-level or leakage error. Check for leaks and kinked hoses and run empty cycles with no additives; if suds appear, keep running empty cycles until they stop, and request service if the code persists without suds.
How do I reset a Samsung washer?
Samsung says there is no true reset other than a power cycle: unplug the washer or turn off its breaker for one to five minutes. A reset clears the stored code but does not fix the cause, so request service if the code returns.
Are all Samsung washer blinking lights errors?
No. Samsung says blinking lights count as an error only if the washer also is not running normally. The Self Clean light is a reminder to run a Self Clean cycle.
