If your Frigidaire is not making ice, the manufacturer’s owner pages give a specific order of checks, and several of them take seconds. This page follows Frigidaire’s no-ice article, its “not making enough ice” page and its page for a newly installed unit, and uses a parts-store guide only as a secondary comparison. It is the Frigidaire companion to the refrigerator ice-maker hub, which covers the checks shared by all brands.
Frigidaire’s no-ice checks, in order
1. A recent installation or power-up. Frigidaire says the unit needs 24 hours to stabilize its temperature before ice production. Do not judge the ice maker before then. If the refrigerator itself is also warm, start with the Frigidaire not-cooling checks, because the ice maker depends on the freezer reaching temperature.
2. A recent power outage. Switch off the refrigerator’s breaker at the home’s breaker box and allow 24 hours for the temperature to stabilize afterward.
3. A locked display. A locked display blocks water and ice. Press and hold the lock key for three seconds to unlock it. Frigidaire’s page does not mention a wire arm or a separate switch. The nearest items are the auger arm in the bin and this lock key.
4. No water reaching the unit. Confirm the water lines are connected correctly. There is a separate Frigidaire article for no water, and our water dispenser guide covers the same symptom across brands.
5. The water filter. Confirm it is installed correctly and securely, that it is not frozen or cracked, and replace it about every six months. If you just installed a new filter, prime and purge the system.
6. Ice or debris in the bucket. Check that the auger is not frozen or out of position, and use the manual.
7. A door open. Ice will not dispense while either door is open, so close both doors completely.
8. The paddle held too long. A built-in shutoff stops dispensing after three minutes of continuous use to protect the motor. Release the paddle to reset it, then try again.
9. A frozen auger. Melted and refrozen ice around the auger can result from infrequent use, temperature swings or power outages. Frigidaire’s fix is to remove the ice bin, thaw it, empty it, wipe and dry it and reinstall it in its proper position.
10. Ice jammed between the ice maker and the bin. Remove the bin and clear the ice cubes, then reinstall it. Avoid rotating the auger while removing or replacing the bin. If the auger was rotated, realign it in 45-degree turns until the bin fits. A misaligned auger can stop dispensing and keep the door from closing properly.
11. Still not working. If the refrigerator was installed in the past 30 days, contact the installer. If it was installed more than 30 days ago, contact Frigidaire to schedule service.
If the ice maker makes some ice, but not enough
Frigidaire’s “not making enough ice” page is about a unit that works but disappoints, and its first item is expectations. It says to expect roughly 2 to 3 pounds of ice per 24 hours, depending on use, and that a full bin should hold about 4 pounds. If the bin does not fill, the water filter may be clogged or due for replacement. Replace it if water dispenses slowly or not at all, or if it is more than six months old.
The page also says to make sure the supply line is not kinked, which it notes can happen when the refrigerator is pushed too far against the wall. Frequent or excessive door openings slow ice production, so limit them. On some models, Quick Freeze on the display temporarily raises the production rate. And if the freezer is set too warm, set the freezer control to a colder setting and allow 24 hours for the temperature to stabilize before judging the result.
If the refrigerator was just installed
Frigidaire’s page for a newly installed unit gives a different list because the water system is brand new. It says to confirm the ice maker is on; the LED on the display should be lit, and it is on from the factory. It says air in the new water lines can cause 2 or 3 empty ice cycles, so prime the water supply before making ice the first time. It says if the system has not been flushed, the first ice may be discolored or taste odd, so flush it before you use the ice.
If you cannot connect a water supply, Frigidaire says to set the ice maker’s On/Off feature to OFF. Otherwise the fill valve may make a loud chattering noise while it tries to run without water. Let the refrigerator cool for several hours after installation, because the ice maker can take up to 24 hours to produce ice. The bin fills from the rear, so dispense some ice to push ice forward so the bin can fill fully.
What the secondary source adds
Parts Town, a parts retailer, lists an off switch, a closed water valve, a kinked line, a filter that is due and an overloaded dispenser motor among possible causes. It says some models produce two to five pounds in 24 hours, with some Extra Ice models reaching eight pounds. That figure is higher than Frigidaire’s own 2 to 3 pounds, so take the manufacturer’s number first and the model manual before either. Parts Town also says reset procedures depend on the exact model, which agrees with Frigidaire’s pages: they give no universal reset sequence.
The causes in detail
1. A new install, outage or fresh hookup

Frigidaire says the unit needs 24 hours to stabilize after installation or an outage. A newly connected water line adds priming, and Frigidaire says air in new lines can cause 2 or 3 empty ice cycles. If the system was not flushed, the first ice may look or taste off.
Wait the 24 hours, prime the supply as the manual says and discard the first batch if it is discolored.
2. The display is locked or the ice maker is off
The display is locked or the ice maker is off
Water and ice do not respond, or the ice maker LED on the display is not lit.

A locked display blocks water and ice; hold the lock key for three seconds to unlock it. On a new unit, check that the ice maker LED on the display is lit, because the ice maker has to be on to make ice.
If you disconnected the water supply, set the ice maker to OFF so the fill valve does not chatter.
3. Water flow is weak, the filter is old or the line is kinked

Frigidaire says to confirm the water lines are connected, that the filter is secure, not frozen or cracked, and replaced about every six months, with a new filter primed and purged. A slow dispenser or a bin that does not fill points to the filter. A refrigerator pushed too far back can kink the line.
Check only what is visible without moving a connected unit. If the line has to be inspected behind the refrigerator, ask an installer or technician.
4. Ice is frozen or jammed around the auger or bin

Frigidaire describes a frozen auger caused by infrequent use, temperature swings or outages, and ice jammed between the maker and the bin. Its fix is to remove the bin, thaw it, empty it, dry it and reinstall it correctly, and to realign the auger in 45-degree turns if it was rotated.
Put a towel down before you remove the bin. Do not chip ice out with a sharp tool or force a jammed bin.
5. The freezer is too warm or the doors are opened too often

Frigidaire’s “not enough ice” page lists a freezer set too warm and heavy door use. Set the freezer control to a colder setting, allow 24 hours and compare the result with the 2 to 3 pounds per day it says to expect.
Frigidaire’s no-ice page also says ice will not dispense while a door is open. Close both doors completely and try again.

If the wait, display, water, filter and bin checks are done and the maker still makes no ice, Frigidaire’s instruction is to contact the installer for a unit under 30 days old, or Frigidaire for service after that.

Call for service if a line leaks, the freezer is warm after 24 hours, the maker needs removal or the visible checks do not explain the failure. Have the model number, the installation date, whether the unit was recently without power, and what you tried from this list.
Frequently asked questions
How long does a Frigidaire ice maker take to start making ice?
Frigidaire says a new or newly powered unit needs 24 hours to stabilize its temperature before ice production. A new water hookup can add 2 or 3 empty ice cycles.
How much ice should a Frigidaire refrigerator make?
Frigidaire says to expect roughly 2 to 3 pounds in 24 hours, depending on use, and that a full bin should hold about 4 pounds.
Why does my Frigidaire dispenser stop after a few seconds?
Frigidaire says a built-in shutoff stops dispensing after 3 minutes of continuous use to protect the motor. Release the paddle to reset it, then try again.
