For a Samsung dryer that is not heating, check the cycle, lint filter and vent-test result before a repair. Samsung says Eco Dry intentionally reduces heat output. Its vent test reports airflow conditions with codes that can distinguish a clear duct from a restriction. Voltage and internal heater faults belong with a professional.

Start with the Samsung-specific checks

Read the selected cycle. Eco Dry intentionally reduces heat output to save energy, so the expected warmth can differ from a standard heated cycle. Samsung describes a brief heat check using Time Dry with Eco Dry off. If you run the check, stay present and stop if you notice smoke, an abnormal smell or unusual sound. Do not open the cabinet to look for heat components.

Clean the lint filter and look for a kinked or crushed section of the exhaust hose that you can see without moving a connected dryer. Samsung says the exhaust must meet its model’s installation requirements and should not use plastic or foil material. Duct length and bends matter; Samsung states that each 90-degree turn reduces the maximum permitted length by six feet. Use the installation guide for the actual model rather than guessing at a universal vent length.

If the dryer has a vent blockage test, record the displayed result. Samsung’s vent codes distinguish a clear result from a partial restriction, laundry left in the drum and an ambient temperature condition. A result can narrow the check; it is not permission to open the dryer or enter a wall duct. The dryer vent cleaning guide covers accessible cleaning and when to use a vent professional.

The Samsung dryer error-code guide will list the meanings of codes such as 9C1 and the vent-test results. If the drum runs but there is no heat across cycles, use the dryer not-heating hub to compare common airflow and supply clues.

Samsung says Eco Dry intentionally reduces heat output to save energy. If the setting is active, the dryer may not feel as warm throughout the cycle as it does on a standard heat setting.

Choose a cycle suitable for the load and fabric. Samsung describes a Time Dry heat check with Eco Dry turned off. Keep the appliance closed and stop if you smell burning or see smoke. If the dryer still gives no heat on a suitable cycle, check the filter and vent next.

2. The vent blockage test reports a restriction

Samsung’s test uses 0 or End for a clear vent, Clg or Cg for a blockage, C80 or C8 for around 80 percent blockage, and C90 or C9 for more than 90 percent. C1 or CL1 means laundry is inside the drum. Ct indicates an ambient temperature outside the test’s range; Samsung says to wait an hour at room temperature. Use the model manual if the display differs.

Clear the lint filter and inspect the visible exhaust route. Do not push tools through a wall cavity or move a gas-connected dryer. A blocked interior duct needs professional cleaning. Samsung says to arrange service if the test passes and the dryer still has no heat.

3. The lint filter is dirty

The lint filter is dirty

Lint is visible on the filter or airflow warnings return.

Lint on the filter reduces airflow. Remove and clean the filter after each load, then reinstall it fully. Samsung also lists a clogged filter among possible causes when a temperature or vent code appears.

Do not run the dryer without the filter in place. If a code returns after the filter is clean, check the vent result and record the exact code for support.

4. One side of the electric supply may have tripped

Samsung explains that an electric dryer can turn its drum while a heating circuit is unavailable. A partial trip can therefore look like a heater fault. Its support instructions include a brief breaker reset in some cases.

Do not open the electrical panel or touch any wiring. If you cannot identify the correct external breaker, if a code returns, or if the breaker trips again, call a licensed electrician. Repeatedly resetting a tripping circuit is unsafe.

5. The voltage or installation is wrong

The dryer has a voltage or installation issue

9C1, 9E, 2E or 9E1 appears, or the model's supply is not verified.

Samsung lists 9C1, 9E, 2E and 9E1 among voltage indications. Its guidance says the dryer should use a dedicated circuit without an extension cord. It also describes 240-volt power for electric models and a gas line for gas models.

Do not measure voltage or open the terminal block. A licensed electrician or appliance technician must verify supply and installation. Give them the exact code and model number.

6. An internal thermal fuse may need service

A thermal fuse may need professional diagnosis

A technician has ruled out cycle, filter, vent and supply concerns but the dryer still will not heat.

Samsung’s US vented-dryer pages do not mention a thermal fuse. A regional Samsung page for condensing and heat-pump dryers lists a blown thermal fuse among additional checks and says it prevents heating and requires professional repair. That page covers a different type of dryer, so do not read it as proof about a vented model; it is the only Samsung statement in the sources used here that names the part.

Do not test or replace an internal fuse yourself. A technician should check the vent and the electrical supply first, then identify any failed safety component and why it opened before replacing it.

If the vent and supply are correct but heat still fails, an internal heating component may need professional inspection. Samsung directs owners to service when its listed checks do not resolve the symptom. Do not remove a panel or test an element.

Samsung’s no-heat order, step by step

Samsung’s US page treats “no heat at all” and “not hot enough” as different paths, and it starts both by checking for an error code. For no heat at all, Samsung first checks the cycle: Eco Dry can run the start of a cycle without heat. Then it asks for a heat test: set Time Dry, turn Eco Dry off, start a cycle, and after 30 seconds open the door and feel inside. If there is any warmth at all, Samsung sends you to its “not hot enough” path instead, which treats service as almost never needed.

If there is no heat, Samsung reviews the installation. An electric dryer needs a 240 V outlet, and low voltage can run the motor but not the heater. A gas dryer needs a properly connected gas line that is turned on. An electric dryer needs an inspected power cord, and the exhaust vent must meet the dryer’s requirements. Samsung recommends a professional install. Then it cycles the circuit breaker: turn it off, wait 30 seconds, turn it back on. Samsung explains why: electric dryers use two circuits, and if only one has tripped the dryer spins but does not heat. If that does not help, the next step is the vent blockage test.

The vent test is run with the drum cool and empty. Press Adjust Time Up and Dry Level together until Ins or In appears; if that fails, Samsung lists Cycle 1 with Wrinkle Prevent, or Air Fluff with Wrinkle Prevent, and a separate procedure for models without those buttons. Hold Start/Pause, do not open the door during the test, and read the result, which shows for five minutes. A result of 0 or End means the duct is clear. CLg, Cg, C80 or C90 mean a clog was detected. Ct means the internal temperature is outside 32 to 104 degrees Fahrenheit, so wait an hour at room temperature and retest. HC is an abnormal temperature: check the power cord, make sure the drum is empty and retest, and if it repeats and the vent is clean, request service. dc means the door is open, C1 or CL1 means laundry is in the drum, and 9C1 is an abnormal voltage code: confirm the cord is fully seated and retest, and request service if it repeats.

Vent requirements Samsung lists

If the test fails, or just to confirm the installation, Samsung lists what the vent must be: fitted and sealed with no gaps where lint can collect, made of proper material rather than plastic or foil, within the maximum length in the user manual, turning direction only when necessary, and free of kinks or flattening. Each 90-degree turn reduces the maximum length by six feet. Samsung says to clean the exhaust vent once or twice a year whether or not you have problems, and notes that the dryer reduces heat when heat and moisture cannot escape, to prevent overheating and fire.

When the cycle ends too fast, or runs too long

Two more Samsung paths are easy to mistake for no heat. If a cycle ends in a couple of minutes with soaking-wet clothes, Samsung points to dirty moisture sensors: two curved metal bars inside the front of the drum, usually in or beside the lint filter housing, which dryer-sheet residue can coat. Clean them with a soft cloth and a drop of dish soap. Samsung says the minimum load is about four regular bath towels; for a very small load, add a few soaked towels. If a cycle takes too long, Samsung says blocked lint is the most common reason moisture stays in the dryer, that Eco Dry lengthens cycles and may turn on automatically for Normal or Time Dry, and that soaking-wet loads and large comforters simply take longer. If the vent test passes and you are certain there is a defect, Samsung says to contact support.

Codes that need a technician

Samsung lists HC, hE and HC4 for excessive heat; clean the lint filter and vent as directed by the model manual. It lists tS, t5, tC, tO and tE family codes for temperature or sensor conditions; restricted airflow is a common first check in its guidance. A recurring code needs service rather than repeated resets.

Samsung identifies 9C1, 9E, 2E and 9E1 as voltage indications and says to use a dedicated circuit without an extension cord. Do not inspect the cord, terminal block or supply wiring. Have an electrician or appliance technician verify the installation. The code alone does not establish which part failed.

When to stop

Stop if the vent test continues to show a severe restriction, a high-temperature code returns, the breaker trips, or the dryer smells burnt. For gas models, do not touch the valve, burner or ignition system. For electric models, do not test the outlet or terminal block. Samsung says to arrange service when its vent test passes but heat remains absent.

Tell service whether the dryer is gas or electric, which cycle was used, whether Eco Dry was on, what vent-test result appeared and whether a code returned. Keep the model label available. That gives the technician the details needed to check airflow, supply or an internal part without guessing from the symptom alone.

If the dryer shows a code as well as missing heat, the Samsung dryer code guide groups the codes by cause and includes Samsung’s built-in vent test.

Frequently asked questions

Does Eco Dry make a Samsung dryer feel less hot?

Yes. Samsung says Eco Dry intentionally reduces heat output to save energy. Check the selected cycle before assuming the heating system failed.

What does C80 mean on a Samsung dryer?

Samsung's vent blockage test uses C80 or C8 for a blockage around 80 percent. Clean accessible lint areas and arrange vent service if the restriction is in a wall or roof duct.

Can I replace a Samsung dryer thermal fuse myself?

No. This guide does not give an owner test or replacement procedure for an internal fuse. Leave internal and voltage diagnosis to a qualified technician.
