For a Bosch dishwasher not draining, read the exact display code before touching the filter. Bosch groups E24 with E6103 and E25 with E6102, but those groups lead to different checks. The pump cover sits under the filter, and Bosch says to use the model manual to identify it.

Check the code and the easy drain path first

Write down every character on the display. Bosch’s code page lists different code families for filters, drain flow, pump problems and water entry. This page covers only the drain-related codes. Do not infer that an unlisted character has the same meaning.

Before removing a filter, turn the appliance off and follow the model manual. Look for water pooled in the tub and debris around the filter. If the dishwasher drains to a garbage disposal, note whether it was recently installed or replaced. Bosch includes the disposal connection among its E24 checks because a plug left in the disposal inlet can block the dishwasher’s drain route.

Keep the inspection narrow. A visible hose bend, a clogged filter and a pump cover that is not seated are different observations. Fix only the condition Bosch’s instructions describe. If you cannot identify the filter or cover in the manual, stop rather than prying at the pump housing.

What Bosch’s drain codes mean

Bosch lists E24 and E6103 together as drain-related codes. Its ordered checks begin with the hoses, then the filter and pump-cover area, and then the disposal connection when that installation applies. Check those items before treating the code as proof of a failed pump.

E25 and E6102 point to a drain pump that is blocked or a pump cover that is loose or missing. Bosch locates the cover beneath the filter. The E25 page describes removing the filter, checking the cover, lifting it as directed, and removing debris and water with a sponge. It warns that debris may be sharp. Follow the model manual’s diagram and do not reach beyond the described area.

E22 and E9240 are filter-blocked codes. Bosch says to remove the filter, wash it under running water with mild soap and a soft brush, then reinstall it. Follow the owner’s manual for the filter and its maintenance interval. E23 and E6101 are drain-pump problem codes; contact Bosch support for the next step.

Bosch display What Bosch’s page groups it with Next safe direction
E24 or E6103 Drain trouble Check the hose, filter and pump-cover area; check the disposal inlet only if connected there.
E25 or E6102 Blocked pump or loose or missing cover Check the filter and pump cover as the model manual shows.
E22 or E9240 Filter blocked Clean the filter using Bosch’s stated method.
E23 or E6101 Drain-pump problem Contact Bosch support.

The display is a starting point, not a parts order. E25 has at least two explanations in Bosch’s own description, so the pump should not be priced as a confirmed failure until the cover has been checked. E24 also has more than one possible cause. A drain hose that is visibly bent and a filter that needs cleaning do not require the same repair. Write down what you actually found instead of telling a technician that a code proves the pump is bad.

Bosch’s error-code page gives a 30-second breaker reset for the reset instructions it lists. It also says to contact customer support if that does not resolve the problem. Treat this as a model-support instruction, not a general fix for every dishwasher symptom. If the breaker trips again or there is a burning smell, do not keep resetting it.

Do not apply one code’s instructions to another. For E23 or E6101, contact Bosch support rather than opening the pump area. For a code not listed here, use the model manual or Bosch support rather than borrowing a reset or cleaning step from a different code family.

The code list also covers components beyond the drain system, including models with a heat-pump heater or Zeolite drying system. Those entries are outside this guide’s drain diagnosis. If a displayed code does not match the drain groups above, use the Bosch dishwasher error-code guide for the supported code table.

Bosch’s basic clog sequence when no code is shown

Standing water with no usable code is the situation Bosch addresses on its separate not-draining and not-pumping pages. Both describe the same short sequence. Bosch calls a clogged filter or pump the most common reason a dishwasher stops draining.

  1. Remove the filter, using the owner’s manual for the method.
  2. Clear trapped debris or objects from it and wash it under running water with soap and a soft brush.
  3. Before putting the filter back, remove the pump cover as the manual shows, then take debris and standing water out of the pump area with a sponge.
  4. Reinstall the pump cover and then the filter.

Bosch repeats the same caution on both pages: some debris may be sharp. Neither page gives model-specific steps; they defer to the owner’s manual for the exact filter and cover removal. If the water still does not drain after this sequence, Bosch directs owners to customer support at 1-800-944-2904. That sequence stops at the pump cover. It does not include removing the pump, so a drain problem that survives it belongs with Bosch or a qualified technician rather than further disassembly.

Causes, from a filter check to professional help

1. The filter is blocked

The filter is blocked

The display shows E22 or E9240, or the filter is visibly covered with food debris.

E22 or E9240 points to a blocked filter in Bosch’s code list. Food debris can also be visible before a code appears. Turn the appliance off and remove the filter only as your model manual shows.

Bosch’s procedure is to rinse the filter under running water with mild soap and a soft brush, then reinstall it. Use the owner’s manual to locate and remove the filter. Do not use a tool to force it out; if the filter will not seat, ask Bosch support.

2. The pump cover is loose or missing

The drain-pump cover is loose or missing

Bosch displays E25 or E6102 and the pump cover under the filter is not secured as shown in the model manual.

Difficulty
Moderate
Time
20 minutes
Tools
spoon, sponge

E25 or E6102 can point to a loose or missing cover under the filter. Bosch says to remove the filter fully and locate the cover as shown in the model instructions. The E25 page describes lifting the cover until it clicks and then pulling it up and forward until resistance is felt.

Remove only debris accessible in the described area. Bosch warns that some pieces may be sharp. Use a sponge for water and avoid reaching past the cover or prying on the pump. If the cover is absent, cracked or does not lock in place, contact Bosch rather than running another cycle.

3. The drain pump is blocked

If the filter and cover checks do not resolve E25, Bosch’s page treats the drain pump as a possible obstruction. E25 does not prove that the pump needs replacement; the loose cover is another Bosch-listed cause. Do not remove the pump or test its wiring.

The $100–$400Source: Dishwasher Repair Cost (Fixr) · Checked October 12, 2026 is a Fixr planning range for a repair, not a Bosch quote or model-specific diagnosis. Ask the technician to explain what they found under the filter and why a pump repair is needed.

4. The disposal plug is still in place

The disposal connection is still plugged

The dishwasher drains into a recently installed or changed garbage disposal and its inlet plug may not have been removed.

If the Bosch drains through a newly installed disposal, the disposal’s dishwasher inlet may still have its plug. Bosch includes this connection in its E24 checks. Do not reach into the disposal or disconnect its wiring; ask the installer to confirm the connection.

Ask the installer to confirm the plug was removed if the dishwasher was connected recently and the drain path is otherwise clear. Do not place your hand inside the disposal. If the sink drain is also slow, a plumber should check the shared plumbing.

5. A hose is kinked or damaged

A hose is kinked or damaged

A visible hose is bent, crushed or damaged; Bosch says to check the hose before proceeding to pump service.

Bosch tells owners to check the hoses for bends or damage as part of its drain guidance. Inspect only visible hose sections. Do not pull the dishwasher out by its hose or assume that one drain-hose height applies to every brand.

If a hose is behind the cabinet or visibly damaged, have the installer or technician inspect it. Use the installation guide for the exact model and preserve the route it specifies; do not apply another manufacturer’s measurement.

6. The code needs Bosch support

Bosch lists E23 and E6101 as drain-pump problems and directs owners to contact support. It also recommends support when the listed checks do not resolve the code. Do not translate the code into a pump replacement without inspection.

When you call, give Bosch the model number, exact code and checks you completed. The Bosch US code page lists customer support at 1-800-944-2904. If the appliance has a burning smell, damaged wiring or a breaker that repeatedly trips, stop using it and call a qualified technician.

Where the drain components sit

The filter is at the bottom of the tub; the pump cover sits underneath it. The pump then moves water into the drain hose, which leads to the sink or disposal connection. The diagram is generic and does not show every Bosch model’s layout or fasteners.

Use the diagram to name the parts when you describe the code. It is not permission to open the appliance. For E22 or E9240 filter care, use the dishwasher filter-cleaning guide. For a wider list of Bosch codes, see the Bosch dishwasher error-code guide.

Repair cost and the next decision

The first checks are the filter, the cover and a visible hose condition. If a technician recommends a pump, ask which observation rules out the cover or a blocked drain route. Compare the written estimate with the dishwasher pump repair-cost guide, which uses Fixr’s ranges and replacement rule. A code alone is not enough to decide whether the dishwasher should be repaired or replaced.

If the display shows E24, E25 or another code, the Bosch dishwasher error-code guide lists Bosch’s own steps for each.
